SHIPS IN STREAM.
PORT CONGESTED.
THIRTEEN HERE TO-MORROW
RELIEF BY WEDNESDAY.
• The larger amount of shipping working the port was again evidenced to-day wlien two ships were at anchor in the stream. To-morrow, with an intercolonial passenger liner and two deepwater freighters due, a rearrangement of berthing has been necessitated. The Montreal-Australia-Xew Zealand Line's Kalmata, which arrived in port early yesterday morning from Xapier for final loading for east coast North American ports will remain, at anchor in the stream until to-morrow afternoon, when the I'nion CompanyV Matua is to sail for Pacific Islands, leaving a l»erth vacant at Prince's wharf. The trans-1 asman cargo ship Kairanga rode at anchor from the time of her arrival from Sydney this morning until earlv this afternoon, when she moved into King's wharf. The 1 nion Company's Kaimiro was transferred from Prince's wharf to Western wharf -for completion of her discharge and the Port Darwin was moved further up Prince's to make wav for the new Huddart Parker passenger liner Wanganella. which will arrive from Australia early to-morrow morning. The Wanganella. which has passengers and mails, will have the outside berth. The Union Company's Kakapo was shifted from King's wharf to Chelsea to-day, allowing the Kairangi to fill her berth. The small coaster Pukeko will be berthed at the end of Central wharf oil her making |>ort this evening. The Osaka Shosen Kaisha Brisbane Maru and the Federal Steam Navigation Line s Kent are both set down for sailing to-morrow and their berths at Central and Queen's wharves respectively will probably be occupied by the Fernmoor, with slag from Antwerp, and the Port Jackson, which is 'loading for Lnited Kingdom ports. In all, there were 10 overseas ships, an islands trader, six large coasters and intercolonial vessels and a number of provincial vessels in the port to-day. but by to-morrow the number of deepwater ships working will be 13. The congestion should be past by Wednesday, provided weather does "not delay cargo operations.
