SAVINGS BANK PANIC.
UNFOUNDED RUMOUR CAUSE.
(Received 12 noon.) BUCHAREST, January 4. A run on the National Savings Bank followed an unfounded rumour that M. Goga's new Fascist Government intended to close the bank. The Government has taken measures to end the panic.
FASCIST RUMANIA.
FRENCH FEARS EXPRESSED.
PARIS, December 31
Fears for a Fascist regime in Rumania are expressed in the French Press, which recalls that M. Goga has made many visits to Germany. The newspaper "Populaire," under the heading, "Towards a Fascist Dictatorship in Rumania," calls King Carol's choice of M. Goga as Premier "a real coup d'etat." It can have grave consequences, internally and internationally, the paper adds.
Writing in "l'Oeuvre," Madame Tabouis says the situation in Rumania is serious. The Goga Cabinet will risk bringing on internal trouble by drawing Rumania away from the London-Paris axis, she says.
"Pertinax," writing in the "Echo de Paris," "comments: "King Carol, having come out second best in the elections, has taken headstrong action. That is not new for him."
The Right Wing newspaper, "Le Journal," strikes a different note. Having recalled M. Goga's war record, it asks: "Who will believe that such a man will become a supporter of Germanism?"
