CHILDREN'S SAFETY.
Gas Drill Not to be Allowed in
Peace Time.
BRITISH DECISION,
LONDON, January 4.
On the ground of the adverse psychological peace-time effects, the Board of Education opposes gas drill for school children. It says it should not be undertaken until absolutely necessary. Local authorities in the meantime will work out emergency measures, including the closing of schools in dense areas on an outbreak of war.
The ideal solution would be the evacuation of the scholars to safer country districts, states the board. Schools located on the routes of air raiders should be provided with shelter trenches and gas-proof rooms. Children in the less exposed areas should carry gas masks to school.
