COURT ORDER DEFIED.
MOTOR CYCLIST'S OFFENCE. MAGISTRATE'S STERN WARNING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. "It is a question of whether I should not treat this case as contempt of Court and impose a term of imprisonment," declared Mr. E. C. Levvey, S.M., to-day during the hearing of a case in which a youth, Stanley Arthur Dumpleton, was charged with riding a motor cycle on December 19, not being the holder of a driver's license.
Inspector Wilson, of the Transport Department, who prosecuted, said Dumpleton had his license cancelled for two years only a week ago when he was convicted for a driving offence. On Sunday last an inspector saw him again riding a motor cycle along the main North Road.
It is a great pity yon have not power to confiscate this man's machine," said the inspector, who added ha had a talk with Dumpleton, who agreed to allow him to sell the cycle. "1 am tempted to give you what you deserve, young man," declared Mr. Levvey "If you think you or others can defy the Court's orders you had better learn otherwise. I will give you a further opportunity, but there will be no option or further suspension if there is any repetition of this sort of thin~." Dumpleton was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within twelve months if called upon.
