NATURE'S BEAUTY.
GROWING ENTHUSIASM
PRESERVATION OF FLORA. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE. "There is no doutrt Auckland lias remarkable endowments in its parks, anil well the people appreciate them," stated tlie Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, replying to a deputation to-dav. "An added asset is the closeness of the park areas to the city. 1 took ,an Australian visitor friend up to Albert Park during luncheon hour one day last week. He wanted to stay there; with difficulty I got him away. My friend, the Australian, enthused over the splendid lay-out of the park; the beautiful fresh air there, and every bed of blooms lie saw. It was the first time he had seen a pohntukawa tree in' bloom, and his expressive raptures were good to hear.
"When T said" that. Aucklanders jealously guarded tlieir jSarks and playing areas, my friend remarked, 'Well, T admire 'em: if I lived in that street over there I'd guard Albert Park—its trees and flower beds—with a gun.* " The Minister said that happily throughout the Dominion to-day enthusiasm existed in all things that worked toward the preservation of native bush, and the beautification of highways and bare spaces. "I am hopeful that early in the New Year I -will be able to give our proposals for work of this kind," added Mr. Parry. "There have been some very fine suggestions sent in as a result of Government conferences, and T should like to see many of them adopted."
