HOLIDAY PAY.
CLOTHING TRADE. CLAIM BY EMPLOYEES. The secretary of the Auckland Clothing Trade Employees' Union. Miss A. Cossey. has circularised employers ir the industry directing to their notic( the fact that an order of the Arbitra tion Court made on November 30, 1037 indicates that all employees who workec on Boxing Day. lO.'iti. are entitled to one day's pay. ]n some cases this has noi been paid, and Miss Cossey is request ing tliat the owing shoulc either be paid to the Vomen employee! concerned or forwarded to her. "As these wages must be recoverec on or before December 20. you wil appreciate that it is necessary that th< amount owing on behalf of the em plovees so working for you last Boxin, Day be paid on or before December 14. adds the circular. "If the amount i not paid by that date it will be necessary to issue proceedings to keep th claim alive." Miss Cossey explained this mornin that the employees concerned, ineludin dressmakers and milliners, shop tailor esses, shirt silk and white workers, an workers for clothing manufacturers worked a 40-liour week of five days and, as Boxing Day last year fell on Saturday, the employers did not pa; for tjie holiday, claiming that the em plovees were not entitled to extra pay ment as they had received a full week' wages. Boxing Day, however, was I paid holiday, according to the award.
