OPENING OF SEASON.
MINISTER'S OBJECTION.
SOCIETY'S RECOMMENDATION. (From Our Correspondent.) THAMES, Sunday. The objections of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, to the opening of the shooting season on a Sunday were responsible for some discussion at a meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society held on Saturday evening.
The president, Mr. F. E. McKenzie, said the Minister objected to the season opening on' Sunday, the day on which May 1 would fall next year. To make the day a Monday would be unfair to working men who held licenses. He considered the views of other societies should be taken.
The society finally adopted the president's suggestion, that it recommend to the Minister the opening of the season on the first Saturday in May in each year.
The society recommended that the fees for shooting licenses should be increased from 25/ to 30/ a year. The president said the increase of 5/ made last year had resulted in a larger membership, with a consequent bettering of conditions.
