WOMEN ON JURIES.

The news re a body of women J uror ! scuttling off like a number of frightened rabbits merely because their case was on the revolting side certainly makes one think. Was the characteristically strict and narrow Scottish upbringing, which so often produces * false sense of modesty in its victims, responsible for this deplorable action? These women who so deliberately shirked their duty and scorned the marvellous privilege their sister women have fou.'.ht and won for them should hang their heads in shame and richly deserve a public spanking. Unless women are going to stand shoulder to shoulder with men i» the legislation of the different countries, their court* of law and public institutions. I can see no hope for the world. When one realise* what is happening in foreign countries to-day, where on the most trivial of excuses numbers of brave men are sent to face a legal death. the very soul of the world shudders. Would such a state of affairs exio-t if their own countrywomen sat on the juries that tried and condemned them? I sa V definitely no. The hope of the world to-dav lies almost entirely in the hands of the female sex, and when one considers all that the unfortunate attitude of those Scottish women entails, no condemnation of them can be too severe.
