SMART SPRINTS.

TE RAPA TRIALS. ROYAL BACHELOR PLEASES. (By TcK-graph.—Special to " Star.") HAMILTON, this day. The course proper, 50ft out from the rails, provided splendid going at Te Rapa this morning, when a number of candidates with engagements at the Waikato meeting next week were sent along. The plough was also open and was availed of in several instances.

Br: fee Street (Mclnally) hit out over half a mile in 52s —a good effort. Rollicker (Goulsbro) and Jan Ridd (Ferguson) were associated over five furlongs, which they ran comfortably in 1.10. Both are in good heart. Royal Bachelor (Goulsbro), who looks in splendid nick for his sprint engagement next Saturday, hit out in company with Star Artist (Ferguson) over six furlongs, there being little between the pair at the completion of the effort. Royal Bachelor did his work well. A useful effort over half a mile was credited to Trilliarcft (Mcljnally), who cut out the distance in 51s. He has been moving along pleasingly of late and should show to advantage at the meeting. Hopalong (Amunsden), who was picked up by Desert Wings (McLaughlin) at the seven-furlong barrier, ran once round in 2.7 1 /4, the last seven furlongs occupying 1.38. Tosh (Mclnally) came home from the half-mile post in 51V4s. Bronzette. who is looking improved, ran five furlongs in 1.6 Vfe. Dark Shadow (McLaughlin), who is to contest the open sprint on the first day of the Waikato meeting, recorded 1.23 for six furlongs, his final half-mile being cut out in 56 4-ss. Mangukaha (Amunsden) brushed home from the three-furlong peg in 38 4-ss. going well within herself throughout. Kurapae (McLaughlin) ran an easy half-mile in 575. Australian Star was cxercised on the inner grass.

Requiem (Goulsbro) was worked on the plough, sprinting down the straight. Boughal hit out while running once round on the plough, but was not after time.
