NEW OFFICER APPOINTED.

Lieutenant-Colonel Mead, on taking over the new appointment, will be granted the temporary rank of colonel. His present appointment at army headquarters, which includes the duties of second member of the Army Board, will be taken over by Colonel E. Puttick, on his return from England in January. Lieutenant-C'olonel Mead served with the New Zealand territorial force before Ihe war, and proceeded overseas as a lieutenant 'with the Canterbury Regiment' of the Main Body. He served with the New Zealand division throughout the war, wa« wounded on two occasions, mentioned in dispatches twice, attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, and was awarded the D.S.O. On returning to New Zealand from active service he was appointed to the New Zealand Staff Corps with the rank _of captain, and has held various appointments in the central and southern military districts. He graduated from the Staff College, Camberley, in 1928.
