£10,000 FOR THE TRUMP.

CABLEGRAM FROM AUCKLAND.

. The offer of £ 10,000 made for the I Melbourne Cup winner, The Trump, ; announced by cable recently, wa« sent ; from Auckland, according to the Sydney j '"Morning Herald." ! The cablegram stated: "Will you accept .£IO,OOO for The Trump to vieit California to race at Crosby Del Mar track. Reply urgent." The cablegram was signed • Barry Young, Box 1554, Auckland." j Mr. Kccles passed the cablegram to the bloodstock agents, Mackinnon and Cox Proprietary, Ltd., who cabled to its representative in Auckland, Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., to make inquiries from the sender regarding the offer. ; When asked whether he would be prepared to accept £10,000 for The Trump, j Mr. Eee'ies merely gestured, but if the j offer is genuine it is practically certain j that The Trump will be lost to Australia. The Trump is a gelding, ami his only value is in racing, and from now on he will receive weights that are almost certain j to preclude him from winning any importI ant handicap. | Bing Crosby's track at Del Mar was opened about six months ago. Situated on the Pacific Coast, about 100 miles from Los Angeles, it is the playground of wealthy film players. Apart from Crosby, who was its sponsor and who races a huge team of horses, its committee includes Constance Bennett. Pat O'Brien, and Joe E. Brown. Clark Gable, Jack Oakie and Gary Cooper are among the film actors who race their horses there. Messrs Wriffht. Stephenson and Company stated this morning that they had been unable to confirm the offer.
