HOUSE or THE "MAGIC FLUTE" VI FAN A. The largest part of the Inure tenement block, known as the ''Freihaus." which was broken u|> a year apo. has been replaced by modern building*. The Freihaus was, at the end of the eighteenth century, the home of Mozart, who. in a. small bungalow in the courtvard of this huge tenement, composed the "Magic Flute." The small house was saved I>v musical admirers, of the master, and is now preserved on the Moenchsberg in Salzburg. The Operngasse (opera street) lias Ik-cii lengthened and cuts through the territory where once the Freihaus stood. To tlie house Operngasse 26. which has just been completed, has been affixed a memorial tablet, which recalls that in its place stood once a theatre, in which the ''Magic Flute" was first performed. Operngasse. has two large painted windows which represent scenes from the "Magic Flute," and depict Mozart working in the bungalow which stood in tlu? courtyard of the Freihaus.
