SENT TO PRISON.

INTOXICATED IN CAR. (From Our Correspondent.) XAITAIA, Tuesday. Fourteen days' imprisonment and the cancellation of his driving license for two years were the |>enalties imposed to-day upon Dan Murray, a Maori, on a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a car. Murray did not appear when his case was called before Messrs. J. T. B. Taaffe and W. H. Atkins. J.P.'s. and an application by the police for the estreatment of the amount of his bail, £10. was granted. However, about an hour later defendant ap|>eared and explained that his car had refused to start. Evidence was given that oil Saturday evening Murray had been seen by a traffic inspector and a constable coining out of a hotel and staggering toward his car. He got into the driving seat, but attempted to vacate it on the approach of the inspector and the constable. JJIe was arrested and spent the night in the Kaitaia gaol, but was released on bail next morning.
