When the Tymeric berthed at New Plymouth last night after an exciting voyage that included experiences in the Spanish and Far East conflicts, ('rawford was arrested, and this morning was charged in the Magistrate's Court with stowing away. Crawford overheard members of the crew talking of the ship going to Newcastle, and that was liow he made his mistake, apparently forgetting there were two Xewcastles. After giving himself up Crawford worked with a will and his conduct proved exemplary. Complication*. Further complications occurred when advice was received in New Plymouth that the Hongkong military authorities were in quest of a deserter, and asked that inquiries lie made concerning the Tymerie'a stowaway. ft is understood that Crawford denied that he was in any way connected with the wanted man. The police asked for n remand till Wednesday to make further inquiries, stating that it would be necessary on account of information received to communicate with Hongkong. The captain of the Tymeric expressed a desire to have Crawford back iu his ship, but as she sails for Australia on Thursday he asked that prisoner be remanded in custody. Crawford had nothing to say.
