RAILWAY EARNINGS.
PROFIT DOWN BY £7800.
EXPENSES MUCH HEAVIER
(From Our Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A working profit of £13.430, a decrease of £7842 compared with the figure for the same period last year, is revealed in the railway working account for the four-weekly period ended September 18. The gross receipts for the four weeks were £617,708, or £70.783 more than last year. Expenses at £604.278 were £78,625 higher.
The operating account for the North Island shows a revenue of £327,654, or an increase of £46,747. and expenses amounting to £326,378, or £46.282 more than last year. There was a profit of £1276, compared with £811 last vear.
The receipts for the South Island were £215.744, an increase of £14,023, and the expenses were £224.680, or £20.162 higher. There was a loss of £8936, compared with a loss of £2797 last year.
The balance of miscellaneous revenue was £21,090, against £23,258 in 1936. The revenue was £74,310 and the expenditure £53,220.
For the period from April 1 to September 18 the net revenue was £184.234 m against £356,001 last year. The gross revenue was £3,802,012, an increase of £503,951. The expenditure was £3,617,778, an increase of £675,718.
