CRICKET.
OTAHUHU ASSOCIATION.
MORE SENIOR ELEVENS ?
TURF WICKETS DESIRED
Quite an optimistic note was struck at a meeting of the Otahuhu Cricket Association when prospects for the new season were considered to be excellent. Discussion resulted in several recommendations being passed for submission to the annual meeting to be held on the 20th.
It was the unanimous opinion that all games should be played on turf wickots, and a strong deputation is to wait on the Otahuhu Borough Council to urge that two wickets be laid down :n Sturges Park. Another suggestion was that, instead of awarding prizes to players with the best batting and bowling averages, greater interest would be aroused by giving trophies to the most improved players during th . season.
As applications have been received from a number of junior players for entrance to the association steps are to be taken to re-introduce the junior competition. A number of retired cricketers are to" be approached, and a special request made for assistance to strengthen the membership of the local umpires' association.
There is a prospect of an increased number of senior teams being nominated, and probably four junior l teams.
