SOCCER SEASON.

CLOSING FUNCTIONS. CLUB SMOKE CONCERTS. Herahlins the approach of the season's close. I'onsonby and North Shore Soccer Clulw held their anmial smoke concerts on Saturday evening. Mr. Walter ihiwson, president, occupied the chair of the former when an exceptionally enjoyable programme was carried out l)v the Lyric quartet conof Messrs. A. H. Ripley (a vicepresident of the I'onsonhy Club). F. Campbell, A. McElwain and K. Thomas, who contributed solos and concerted items; Messrs. J. Massey and J. Bruce, humortets and Mr. \V. Aldridge, accompanist, while Cardo, the magician performed several baffling tricks. Kepresentatives of the A.F.A. and kimlred clubs were present and a short toast list was carried throujrh Xorth Shore combined their annual prizegivins with their smoke concert, which was held In the Navy Leajrue Hall. Devonport \isitorn from other clubs, the Navy, the Auckland Football Association, and kindred sports bodies were present. The jratherin™ was presided over by the Mayor of Devonport, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle. who congratulated the club on its successful activities during the season. He also presented the trophies, each member of the nenior eleven receiving a medal for winning the Auckland medal competition, and the McCluskv Memorial Cup to F. Cameron, -who represented New Zealand in all Tests against the English touring team; At both functions tributes were paid to the late Dr. McDougaU, and syinpathv was also expressed with the Navy in the tragic deaths of shipmates in the yachting fatality
