TAXI CONTROL.
Criticisms of the taxi services in .Auckland as being unsatisfactory are beyond my comprehension and are without warrant. The Auckland public has never been so well catered for as at the present time. Tt costs one company over £4000 jver year for telephone* and operators' wages for a 24-hour service all the year round, and this has heen oaid by the owner-drivers themselves. Recently we have had to ask the taxi user* ti> share the«e cost* with us. because some time a<ro the City Council's subcommittee refused to permit a small increase on minimum fares. We al! know that the cost of living and other overhead expenses, have prone up con>M.'rah]y. Even our city fathers admit at la-* that we are entitled to a small increase on the fir-t mile. It is. gratifying to see that some "f the councillors are kind enough to share mir views. C.f.
