AWATEA'S RECORD.

AUCKLAND-SYDNEY, 55H 13M. AORANGI IN PORT. MATUA FKOM THE ISLANDS. A new record for the crossing of the Tasnian has been set up by tlie Union Company's passenger .steamer Awatea, which made the crossing from Auckland to Sydney in 2 days 7 hours 13 minutes. She left Auckland on Friday, her official departure being timed for 5.39 p.m., ami arrived at Sydney at 12.00 a.m. to-day. Her average speed for the passage was 23 knots. From noon on Saturday till noon Sunday she did ,570 miles at an average of 23.35 knots. The Union Company,. the designers and builders, Messrs. Viekera, Armstrongs, Ltd., of Barrow, the master, Captain A. 11. Davey, the engine room staff and all concerned are to be congratulated on their achievement. The Union Company's motor ship Matua arrived this morning after a smart run down from Suva. She berthed at the Queens wharf, where she is discharging 1!),202 cases of bananas and small quantities of other Island fruit, and is due to leave for Wellington at 11 p.m. to-day. The Canadian-Australasian Royal Mail liner Aorangi arrived from Sydney early this morning and berthed at the Prince's wharf to land 222 passengers and cargo. She sails at 11 a.m. to-morrow for Vancouver, via ports.

Monterey, which left Auckland at 1.5 a.m. on Saturday for Sydney, was due there at 1 p.m. to-day. (H. and M.) Columbia, Danish motor ship, arrived yesterday afternoon from Nauru with SOiJO tons of phosphate, and is discharging at the Kings wharf. (8.P.C.) Chifuku Maru, after a delay of two days, left for Wellington on Saturday evening to continue discharge of cargo from- Japan and to load. (R. and S., Ltd.) Ardenvohr completed loading and sailed at 4.20 p.m. on Saturday for New York, Boston and Montreal. (N.Z.S. Co.) Remuera arrived at 11 o'clock this morning from New Plymouth to complete discharge of cargo from London. >**ne goes to Opua later to start loading. -(N.Z.S. Co.) Middlesex is discharging cargo from London at the Prince's wharf and i.s expected to leave for Wellington on Wednesday. (N.Z.S. Co.) Limerick advises that she expects to arrive at midnight to-morrow from Vancouver, via Papeete and the Cook Islands. (U.S.S. Co.) Sussex is discharging cargo from Liverpool and West of England ports at the Queen's wharf, and is expected to leave on Saturday for Wellington. (N.Z.S. Co.) Paua, the Shell Company's coa.stal tanker, arrived from Wellington yesterday, and is berthed at the Western wharf. (Shell Co.) Canopus, which arrived from Westport on Saturday, is expected to leave on her return this afternoon. (W.C. Co.)
