MARIST VICTORY.

LEAGUE CLUB FINAL. DEFEAT OF RICHMOND. SHORE WIN PHEIAN SHIELD. In sultry weather on hard grounds the Amkland Rugby League club championship matches were brought to a conclusion on Saturday. In the championship match M-irist 1,-tained their good form of recent matches, and defeated Richmond by 12 pointc to 0, after a hard and fast game. The Phelan Shield final between Mount Albert and North Shore was marked by smiing. North Shore got the lead near (.ho end, and then increased it to put the issue beyond doubt. Tin 1 results were: — Alii ist lli, Richmond 5. .North Shore 22, Mount Albert 18. ANDERSON'S DAY. The remarkable feat of scoring all the 12 points for his team was put up by Anderson, the Murist forward and captain, his contribution being two tries and thr<") Rom Ik. For one of the tries he raced nearly half the length of the Held, and ho got there through the Richmond <lifcii,-,< holding off too long and waiting fur a pass that did not come. His most spectacular effort was a field goal near tlie end. On actual achievement during tlio season there Is not a better forward In Auckland, and his consistent omission when representative teams are chosen is something of a mystery. Good support en me trom Breed and Woods, the latter showing up well In the loose play. The Marist hacks worked well with their forwards to make the side a very wellbalanced one on the day. McLaren has shown consistent' improvement, but the finest pivotal player of the side was Haslnm. who gave a splendid exposition of centre play. He gave Mldgeley and Halsey some good chances on the wings Cilover gave a flawless exhibition of fullbaek play. , Had the Richmond backs played as well as their forwards the result might have been different. They were without Furnell, G. Tlttleton and W. Tlttleton. The absence of the. latt.T probably upset the side the most, as Greenwood was the weak link in the chain, and the ball seldom went past him. Howell played his usual good game at the base of the scum, and good form was shown by Blckerton. at llrst flve-elghth. Maglll was not a success at full-back. Mitchell, the former Manawatu player was the outstanding figure in the Richmond forwards. J. Satherley save his side signal service In that he won the ball for Richmond with consistency from the set scrums. SPECTACULAR DISPLAY. In a match that wi« fast and more spectacular than the main game. North Shore defeated Mount Albert by 22—18, after leading 14—10 nt half-time. Shore hud six points up within a dozen minutes. The scoring thereafter fluctuated, and well on In the second half Mount Albert, with tho board reading 18—17, seemed to have victory in their grasp. Then with a penalty goal, the Shore centre, Smith, turned the scales and a snap try sealed the Issue. Wilson at half-back was the outstanding Mount Albert back, but with the exception of the winger, Drew, the rearguard failed to function constructively. G. Zane, Shore's second five-eighths, delighted for thrustful runs, and J. Smith, at centre, was seen at his best. U Scott played safely. V. Scott outshone Verrall as a full-back. Leathcrbarrow, Tristram and Gunning w-ere a trio of hard-working forwards for Mount Albert. The Shore pack played well, but a word Is dne to Simpson for his best performance of the Mason. E. Scott was a tower of strength until compelled to leave the Held early In the second spell.
