SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.

The fact that the Auckland Sunday School Union was one of the largest interdenominational organisations of its kind outside London was mentioned by the president, the Rev. W. T. Blight, during the annual rally and presentation of prizes in the Town Hall on Saturday evening. Scripture examination shields and prizes won by the various Sunday schools during the year were presented in the presence of about 200 officers and members of the Auckland Battalion of the Girls' Life Brigade as well as children and parents. Traversing the excellent work done by the organisation, the chairman said that it was founded in 1865 by six young men in Auckland and now embraced all Protestant churches and included 350 schools and had about 25,000 members. An effort would soon be made to reduce the mortgages on the union's buildings amounting to £15,000. Sunday school pupils gave an attractive programme, together with members of the Girls' Life Brigade and a gymnastic squau from the Y.M.C.A. The Newton Band accompanied the hymns and played marching tunes. Prizes won were presented by Mrs. Blight as follows:—Music festival choral shield, primary division, Baptist Tabernacle Sunday School; main division, Devonport Church of Christ. Scripture •liiekls: First division, Avondale Baptist. Sunday School; second division, North Memorial Baptist; third division, Manurewa Children's Home; fourth division, Hunua Presbyterian Sunday School.
