NEW ALBERTA MOVE. Amazing Restrictions Proposed By Government. BAN ON ALL CRITICISM. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 2 p.m.) EDMONTON, October 1, The Newspaper Control Bill, which the Social Credit Premier of Alberta, Mr. William Aberhart, proposes to bring down in the forthcoming session of the State Legislature, has shocked local publishers. Its provision of compulsory licensing of newspapers would force all proprietors to publish free any statement demanded by the Government. Publication of anything displeasing to the Government would mean cancellation of the license.
Moreover, editors must reveal sources of all information.
All Government matter would be immune from the libel and slander laws.
All editorials must bear the name of the writer.
