CAPTAIN COOK'S WATCH.

STOLEN BY HOUSEBOY. DURBAN, July 20. A" very old gold watch, said to have been handed down from Captain Cook, figured in the Newcastle (Natal) Court in a theft ease. A native who had nine previous convictions was found guilty of the theft of the watch, together with some cash, from a private house. The complainant was a daughter of Mr. G. G. Rimer, of Newcastle, who claims direct descent from Captain Cook. It was stated in evidence that the native had only been engaged as houseboy for a few days when he stole the articles and disappeared. He was traced by the police, however, and the watch, which is much treasured, was recovered. He was sent to gaol for three months.
