An Italian column surrounded Punto Ciesgo, capturing nine tanks, 20 armoured cars and 100,000 hand grenades. Rebel 'planes dropped tone or bombs on Torre la Vega, Laredo and Arenas de Igiina. The two last-named were almost wiped out. Santaildcr, however, claims to have rq.ulaed a furious rebel attack from Villa Carriedo. Kebels captured Castro Urdiales, an important coastal stronghold. General Franco'e line now occupies a 35-mile front from the coast to Kspiuosa, the whole length of the rebel 'pincers" closing round Santander being 70 miles, Including the Asturian front.
