AUCKLAND FRENCH CLUB.
The monthly meeting of the French Club was held last evening in the rooms of the Penwomen's Club, Mr. G. S. Coldham presiding over a good attendance of members. The programme for the evening, arranged by Madame M. F. Foley, proved most enjoyable. Two French songs, "On va la jeune Indone?" from the opera "Lakme," and "Chanson Provencale," were rendered by Madame Veta Cornwell, her accompanist being Mrs. Beniams. French songs were also ..given by Mile. M. Francis, who accompanied herself at the piano. Violin solos, "Meditation," from the opera "Thais," and "Berceuse," from "Jocelyn," were given by Miss Wallie. The poems, "Les Bjinns" (Victor Hugo) and "Les ~, Grillone," were recited by Miss P. ~Battey and Mile. R. Francis respectively. Several French readings were given—"Monsieur Bebe," by Mme. L. ':AUen> "Mieux que cela," by Mme. M. F. Faleyji ."Est-ce toi, chere Eliee,'??- :by Miss Berta Carr, and "En Auto," by the president. Supper brought a pleaeant evening to a close.
