AUSTRALIA WINS.
FINAL TEST MATCH. ENGLAND BEATEN BY A GOAL SYDNEY, July 20. The crowd was one of the largest ever seen on the Newcastle sports ground for the final and deciding Soccer Test between England and Australia, which the latter won by 4 goals to 3. Australia led by 2 goals to 1 at half-time. The English team was weakened by the absence of Joy and Finch, while the Australians were strengthened by the inclusion as goal-keeper of J. McXabb. The Australians were led by G. Smith instead of by W. C'oolahan, and an experiment witli the half line worked out satisfactorily. The game was played at an exceedingly fast pace. The Englishmen were a long time in settling down, and allowed the Australians to get rather far ahead, but late in the second half they launched a
series of terrific attacks, and quickly reduced Australia's advantage from 4 —l to 4—3. The visitors were then held at bay by the magnificent defending of McNabb. The scorers were: —Australia: G. Smith (2), Hughes and Wilkinson. England: Mathews (2), Riley. The first Test match played at Sydney on July 10 was won by Australia by 5 goals to 4, while England was successful in the second game held at Brisbane last Saturday by 4 goals to 0. The English side has four more matches to play in Australia, the next fixture being against an Australian eleven at Melbourne next Saturday.
