CRAWFORD CUP TRIALS.

, .One of the ; biggest musters, of trials riders for some time assembled on Sunday to take part in the Crawford Cup trial conducted by the Auckland Motor Cycle Club. The trial was held on the Waitakere Ranges, where recent rains had turned the clay roads into quagmires. This called for skilful handling of machines by the competitors, and credit is due to those riders who completed the course. The officials for • the day were Messrs. F. Zambucka, G. Smith, F. The European Grand Prix, for 350 c.c. motor cycles, over a distance of 205 miles, was won by the British .rider James Guthrie with a Norton machine. He established a Tecord for the race of 2h 27m 31.45, and covered a lap of 87 miles an ' hour, also a record. j Fred Frith, riding a Norton, was second, and was beaten by only one-fifth of a second after a terrific race. E. R. Thomas, I on a Velocette, was third. His time was I 2h 29ni 55.25. VANDERBILT CUP. '«* NEW YORK, July 4. The total number of drivers to qualify for the Vanderbilt Cup motor race is 30, or whom eight are foreigners. The German driver Bernd Rosemeyers is favoured to win. The race has been postponed until Monday owing to rain.
