CAR STUCK ON LINE.
MOTORIST STOPS EXPRESS. Stopped by the signals of a motorist whose car had become wedged in the cattle-stops at a level crossing south of Marton, about 10.30 p.m. on Sunday, the north-bound Limited express, was delayed for 20 minutes. The train reached Auck- | land at 10.15 yesterday morning, 45 minutes late. The motor car struck the cattle-stops when the driver failed to negotiate the level crossing, and its wheels became jammed. Unable to shift hie car, the motorist, realising that the train waa due to pass, set off down the line to attempt to etop the express before a collision occurred. H© succeeded in attracting the attention of the train crew in time, and the train stopped clear of the car. The removal of the car presented some difficulty. The crew of the train and other helpers, however, at last got the car out of the stops by lifting it bodily to the eide of the track. Little damage was done to the car and the express [ passed after a delay of 20 minutes.
