HOCKEY.
p auckland v. wellington. The Wellington Hockey Association's acceptance of July 31 as the date for the shield challenge match with Auckland was received at a meeting of the Auckland Hockey Association last evening. Messrs. H. Watts and H. McQuarrie were nominated as umpires. The New Zealand Association advised that Otago had lodged a shield challenge and asked that the match should be played at Wellington. It was decided to decline the request.
A donation of £5 5/ was made to the St. John Ambulance Brigade. Messrs. Coop. Cooper, GUleepie and Scott were appointed a eub-commlttee to arrange the annual secondary schools' tournament. t. Finer (SomervHle) wae "graded from senior to second grade and J. Rushworth (University) from second to third grade.
