ATHENIAN CLUB.
AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE. The Athenian Club's'entertainment on Saturday evening was a gay and brfli liant success, when the members chose a setting entitled "American Independence Night" in honour of America's anniversary day, July 4. The stage represented a prairie campfire scene, with cowboys, cowgirls and Indian squaws seated, while most harmonious were the melodies sung by Mrs. H. Clarke, Misses Sara Stacpoole, J. Payne, Joy Asquith, Messrs. John Bond and C. Anderson. The hall was bright with flags of all nations, while a huge flag of the stars and stripes of America was prominently placed. Appropriate novelties of American top hats, bags of popcorn and trumpet* were distributed to the guests and added to the jollity of the evening. During an interlude of dancing Miss Connie Piper sang solos and Mr. Dan Callinan played xylophone numbers. The accompanists were Mies Elva Carr and Mr. Trevor Sparling.
