CHURCH PARADE.

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.

SERVICE AT CATHEDRAL.

■POSTS GROUND INSPECTION. Heade3 by the waterside workers' sil- j ver band, nearly 400 members of the St. John Ambulance Association marched from the assembling point at Newmarket to St. Mary's Cathedral, Parnell, for the annual church parade of the association yesterday. The parade was under the charge of Corps Superintendent C. Lindesay. Mrs. E. Qimmell, the lady corps superintendent, controlled the nursing section. Commissioner C. J. Tunks took the salute. The senior officers present included the Mayoress, Lady Davis, who is president of the Auckland nursing division, Assistant Commissioner F. J. Hutchinson, District Surgeon Neil McDougall, District Superintendent A W. Probert, the secretary-manager, Mr. S. E. Langstone, the honorary treasurer, Mr. D. F. Mackay, members of the executive committee of the association, and district and corps officers. Before the service the colours of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem were placed on the altar. The Corps Superintendent read the lesson, Archbishop Averill giving the address. During the taking of a collection for the Opthalmic Hospital of the Order at Jerusalem, an anthem specially composed for St. John festivals was sung. Archbishop Averill made reference to the growth of the movement during the past 20 years. The work was never sensational or conspicuous, he said, and its value was realised only by those who had passed through the hands of the association. As long as the Order provided a means for the serving and healing Christ to carry on His work to-day the St. John organisation would go from strength to strength. Later the Archbishop addressed the cadet, ambulance and nursing divisions outside the church. Commissioner Tunks also spoke. On Saturdfly the annual inspection of the brigade work at sports grounds was carried out.
