LICENSE CANCELLED.

INTOXICATED DRIVER. SKQI'KL TO ACCIDENT. A contractor of Hikataia. Charles Theodore Meredith (Mr. S. J). Rice), a young married man, pleaded not guilty to a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor truck at Takanini on -1 ime 10. Constable I'. Holland said accused wa.s driving to Auckland with two passengers about 5.15 p.m. when he collided with a passenger bus going to Waiuku, damaging the vehicle to the extent of £40. 11 is own truck was also damaged. Accused had been pursuing a very erratic course. After being arrested he was examined by a doctor, who certified that lie was slightly intoxicated and not fit to drive a car. Accused asked to be examined by another doctor, and the latter certified that he had had drink, but was not intoxicated, and that he would have been able to drive. This examination was nearly two hours after the accident. "If a man drives a vehicle and was subsequently found intoxicated in a greater or less degree, he must know what judgment will follow." said the magistrate. "This man will be fined £15 and his license cancelled for six months. The magistrate refused a request bv counsel that accused be allowed to linisli a 14 days' metalling contract. Counsel asked if accused could pay the line at the rate of 10/ per week. The magistrate said accused could make an application and send in a statement of his finances.
