"WORST VEHICLE."

TRAFFIC INSPECTOR'S RIDE. "I never remember sitting in a vehicle in such a bad condition," said Inspector F. Jones, traffic inspector to the Manukau County Council, when telling the magistrate, Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., of a precarious ride he had in a small truck belonging to the Invincible Cash Stores at Papakura. The inspector said he saw the vehicle doing about 15 miles an hour on the Great South Road at Papakura on the afternoon of April 1, and the front wheels had a dreadful wobble on. He eventually stopped the driver, and stepped into the truck for the "ride of his life." The foot brake operated on only one wheel, the hand brake was useless, and to change into first gear the driver had to go into reverse. The vehicle was in a deplorable condition. "The driver was very glad I appeared," he added, "as the truck had been in a like condition for some time, and as an employee he had no option, but to drive it. I put the vehicle off the road, your Worship." A fine of £4, plus costs 10/, was imposed.
