TROTTING.

NEW ZEALAND CUP.

CLASS TO BE DECIDED.

THE POSSIBLE COMPETITORS.

Although the committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club will not decide on the class and prize for the next New Zealand Trotting Cup until after the August meeting, the race is being freely discussed by officials, owners and trainers. The chief topic is the class, many advocating a 4.25 limit and others 4.26. At the moment there are 16 horses available for a 4.25 class, but several of them are likely to be let out by the Reassessment Board and placed on 4.26. For a 4.26 class 21 horses have qualified, but one of these is likely to be let out to 4.27, which would leave 20 eligible candidates. The August meeting at Addington will also influence the club's programme iß&ecutiye. ;;;;•'''-Recfefit; facing has singled out three possibilities for cup company, but it is ■doiibtfuf' if. they will have sufficient opportunities to win their Way to a 4.26 class befjpre entries are taken for the Cup. TJh'ey are Gallant Knight, Lucky Jack and Vo% Luck,, which ait, present are on 4.28 'for two miles. To participate in a 4.26 class; these horses need to win ,two twomile races. •

Lucky Jack, Gallant Knight and Pot Luck will.have three opportunities at the August 1 meeting, and while it is possible for one of them to win two races, there is also the possibility of none qualifying. A suggestion that is gaining favour is that of. making the Cup for horses that are assessed at 4.26 and a condition being included in the programme that will give the club the privilege of inviting any horse to compete. Other quarters consider that this arrangement would mean that the field for a 4.26 class would be too big.

If the invitation clause is adopted, the way to making the class 4.25 is made easy, for in addition to controlling the number of candidates the officials could make certain that only the best horses in commission would - compete. This for many years has been the ambition of the Metropolitan Club.

The list of eligibles at present is as follows:— min. sec. Gamble 4 26 King's Warrior 4 26 Sir Guy 4 26 . Tempest 4 26 Bingen Palm 4 26 Graham Direct 4 25 Cloudy Range 4 25 Glenrossie 4 25 New Derby 4 25 Key Spec 4 25 Rollo 4 25 War Buoy 4 25 Willow Wave 4 25 Bonny Azure .....; 4 25 Blue Mountain 4 24 De Soto 4 24 Worthy iAght ~.. . 4 24 Grand Mogul 4 23 Red Shadow 4 22 Indianapolis ..'.'■ 4 20 Rol l'Or ................ 4 20

CHANGE OF STABLES.

The Australian-bred,, .(rotting gelding Carl has been purchased by the Addington trainer J. Siebel. Carl won the trotteis' division in the Australian Derby for three-year-olds,, and the ability he showed attracted the attention of owners. Among those interested was the late W. Jr. TomkinsQn, and eventually Mr. G. J. Barton purchased the gelding. In-private Carl' had shown a lot of speed and he can' stay.
