LIKES FLEMINGTON.
HIS FOURTH WIN. Upoko Ariki has a liking for the Flemington track, where last week he scored his fourth win. Many backers seemed to doubt his ability to run out the mile and a half, but they overlooked the fact that he had already scored over that distance at Flemington. A good fighting effort gave him victory. Three-quarters of a furlong from home he seemed likely to be caught by Irving, but he held off that horse to score by a length. Upoko Ariki began well and settled down with Art behind the pacemakers, Royal Armour and Villius. There was no change in the order at the straight entrance, where Upoko Ariki obtained a run on the rails. Upoko Ariki and Pooley Bridge shared favouritism for a long time, but at barrier rise Upoko Ariki was favourite. Pooley Bridge was near the rear most of the way, but he moved up smartly on the outside at the half mile. He could not sustain his run and finished seventh of the nine starters. Upoko Ariki is trained by J. T. Jamieson.
