IN LOIN-CLOTHS.
N.Z. Party's Impressions of Pacific Island. PLANTS, CRABS AND SHARKS. (Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. A radio message from the New i Zealand solar expedition on Canton Island, in the Phoenix group, states: — j Canton Island is a paradise for the student of natural history. We have already obtained many specimens for the Auckland and Wellington museums. The Americans have become acclimatised, the only clothing of the majority of them being loin-cloths. Tinted glasses are essential for sun-glare. The island is infested with crabs, which enter the tents and beds when we are asleep. Sharks are abundant and frequent hauls of fish are made by both parties.
