ROAD IMPROVEMENTS.
ELIMINATING BENDS
XORTH AUCKLAND HIGHWAY
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
DAROAVILLE, this day. A considerable sum of money is being spent on improvement to the Xorth Auckland main highway, particularly on the Waiwera-Puhoi section. The notorious hairpin bends, so inm-h disliked by motorist?, will soon be a thing of the past.
Xorth of Warwora a new road is bein" , constructed to Puhoi. While retaining the superb views that have made the Xorth Auckland main route popular, the. new road will eliminate corners which have proved dangerous. The work is. well forward and at the present rate of progress the road should be in use next summer.
The winding and narrow section of the road between Topuni railway station and Manngaturoto railway station is being investigated by officers of the Public Works Department. They are surveying an entirely now route to the east of the existing road. It would connect with the new Brvnderwvn-Mau-ngaturoto and Brynderwvn-Waipu road, an ISft tar-scaled highway now under construction.
The alternative to this would be to straighten and widen the existing hijrh- i way. The question of deciding what is ! to lie done on this section will be dis- ; cussed with the Minister of Public ; Works (the Hon. R. Semple) when he | visits Darcavillc on May 21. Tn the Ruawai district about six miles ; of the existin" road from Wallace corner j to Raupo, is beinjr raised. j ! J
