NEWTON OUTCLASSED.
A good conception of the finer points of League football and ability to weld speed with combination, gave Ponsonby an easyvictory over Newton. In possession the Ponsonby backs dominated the play with Kay, the centre, in a brilliant mood, cutting his way through cleanly with speed and pace changes. Just as Kay was the outstanding back !n the game, Morgan was the outstnndin K forward for his side, although he had good support from Keane and Peterson
So far the Newton backs have not settled down as a combination, although there was some bright individual play. Brimble did his part well, and sent out good pusses, while Deuipsey's positional play at fullback, was up to representative standard Si_ssons tackled very soundly, while Crooks with very limited opportunity, showed speed and cleverness in attack. Beattie, Proctor and Uinders gave good service in the forwards. The Newton pack showed fine vitality in a one-sided game, and stuck to their task right to the call of no side
