HOMES FOR PENSIONERS.
The City Council's proposal to erect a Mock of flats at Ponsonby for old age pensioners is commendable, and at tlie same time bins overdue. One can hardly realise the fact that these pioneers, many of whom made the crooked path straight and converted many » desert into a rose garden, are to-day existing in dark rooms, situated in mean streets, on a mere pittance. We fully understand that these flats, from a ratepayers' point of view, should be self-supporting. Consequently the question of rent* is an important one. and should be equitable to the old asre pensioners pockets. HARRY WOOORUFFE.
