SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS.

MOUNT ALBERT HOSTEL. Scholarship® and prizes won by pupils of the Auckland Grammar Schools were announced at a meeting of the Board of Governors yesterday afternoon. The awards were as follows:— John Williamson Scholarships of a value of £10 each. —Auckland Grammar School: A. I. McCutcheon, G. A. Hoeking, B. F. Harris, S. R. Hunt, C. J. Alexander, R. M. Singer, E. T. Giles. Mount Albert Grammar School: I. J. Shaw, D. M. G. Beaslev, P. A. Jonee, J. F. Burton. Auckland Girls' Grammar School: H. W. P. Walton, G. D. Brack, V. N. Howson. Epsom Girls' Orammar School: Joan H. Mascail, Jean G. Miller, Mary C. Barker. Takapuna Oramnrar School: R. E. Hav, G. B. Reid.

The present and future control of the hostel at the Mount Albert Grammar School was discussed following the appointment of Mr. J. G. Brown a« supervisor for the remainder of the present year. Difficulties which have been experienced in having the hostel supervised by one of the older masters were explained by the chairman. Mr. Brown, he said, lived adjacent to the hostel, while there were other younger masters living on the premises.

On behalf of the principals of the five schools, Mr. C. M. Littlejohn requested that in view of the increased Government grant the board should consider providing the money for school prizes. It was explained that prior to the depression the board allotted £125 for distribution among the schools, but the payment had been stopped when the board had to economise its resources. It was decided to allocate £125 this year.
