REGULATIONS INFRINGED.

"ACTED IN GOOD FAITH." (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this*day. Through unwittingly breaking the local authqrities' regulations in his effort to assist the Dargaville Borough Council, the deputy-Mayor, Mr. J. A. McLean, has been compelled to resign his seat on the council until the next general election in May, 1938. His resignation is the result °f a report from the Audit Department, which was considered at a special meeting, of the council last evening. "I am pressed to state that in this case no mala fide dealings with the council are suggested, and on the evidence submitted the Audit Office is satisfied that you acted in good faith throughout your dealings with the council, and in ignorance of the fact that you were contravening the provisions of the Local Authorities Members Contracts Act, 1934," stated a letter from the Audit Office. Appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. McLean was nude by the acting-chairman, Mr. B. Berry, and Messrs. R. Gibson, A C. Paul, G. H. Wansbone, A. T. Brady and A D. Goodwin. Mr. McLean was. a member of the council from 1909 to 1914 and was Mayor from 1914 until 1919. He was re-elected to the council in 1923 and had served continuously since that date.
