TREVIC SHIELD CONTESTS.

• The Victoria Cruising Clun held races on Saturday afternoon for all the smaller centreboard classes, starting and finishing Dir tin- western reclamation, and a race to Matiatia lor the larger boats in eonlunction with the Devonport Yacht Club l iniatere won the II class and the Maekav Memorial Shield, and Valkyria the L anil .\ class. The dub also held the annual contest for the Trevic Shield, competed for by boats il the V. class. Water Beetle, representing rakapuna I'lnb, won. with Tanya, Tamaki Club's representative, second. Eleven clubs were represented, the race starting after the finish of the usual race for the Z class. I'lic wind was light all afternoon, but between 5 and ii o'clock it died almost to a Hal calm and all finishes were late, a number nf bouts in each class retiring. The officers of the day were: Starter uid judge, Mr. O. .lolmson : time-keeper, Mr. .1. Davidson: recorder, Mr. (i. McGehan. At Devonport Mr. W. A. Lawrie was ifnrler and Mr. S. Shcppard time-keeper. This race started at 2.30 p.m., Ihe course being from starting line off western reclamation, round Sandspit mark, theme round Resolution buoy, back to Sand--pit. up harbour to Kona buoy off Northmote, to finishing line. Riptide was first nway, followed by the rest of the fleet in close order, all crossing in just over a minute. < iff Devonport wharf Riptide had 'i good lead from Vaalele, followed by Limerick, Surprise, Charmaine, Paroro and Memutu. Several boats in this class got becalmed near the finishing line and were can-led on to the mark. Hawk and Memutu fouling it. and they were not timed. S Class. —This race started at 2.40 p.m., the course being the same as the V elass. On the lead down to Sandspit Sirona went ahead, followed by Annette and Mahana. When the boats nearod Kona buoy, above Northcote Point, they run info a calm. The finish was: Sceptre.fill 27m 9s, Mahana fib i'.im 235. Siropa 5h 32m s<>s, Annette oh 33m 20s, Leone 5h 34m 555,. Rangatira 5h 35m 30s. T and X Class.—This race started at 2.50 p.m. and the breeze, although light, was steady. Vamp- took the-lead .from the start and had a good lead on the first round, but. all were becalmed foe a time off Northcote Point except Vamp, which was so far -ahead that she missed the later calm, getting the first of a light southerly shortly after 5 p.m.', which ■ enabled her to finish nearly an hour ahead of the second boat. Shalimar. The finish was : Vamp sh. 8m Bs, Shnlimnr Ch 4m 15s, Salome Gh 10m 565, Lena 6h 16m 28s. Y Class.—This race started at 3 p.m. and on the last stages most of the boats were becalmed off Northcote. Tempest finished first at oh 25m 345, over half an hour ahead, but was reported not to have rounded Rona buoy. If this is so it puts her out of the race. Swallow was also disqualified .for naddllng. The finish was (Tempest 5h 25m 848), Rebel 6h 0m 48s, Kea 6h 8m 48s, Joy Sh 10m 13s, Mulmai 6h 15m 6s, Koala 6h Z Class.—This race started at 2.30 D.m. and the start was a close one, all of the 23 boats crossing the line within 65 seconds. Benny was first away, followed bv Tanya Betty, Tamakl; Tauhau, Tere ana Ranoni, with the others close up. Ranoni worked into the lead going free to Rona buov. off Northcote,! and increased it on the beat to the mark off Shoal Bay and the run to the Watchman mark, followed .by Water Beetle, Benny and Lyla. SriERS CUP TO MARLENE. The Point Chevalier Sailing Club held a general handicap on Sunday for the Spiers Cup, starting and finishing off the clubhouse at 1.55 p.m. in a eouth-west breeze. Leone wa« first away, followed by Val and Vamp, with the rest of the fleet bandy. Marlene went into the lead early in the race, but Ma liana led on the second round and the finish was: Ma liana (scr), 5h 21m 15k; Marlene (2im). ">li 22m 10s; Vamp (4iin). fih 24m fills; Martha S. Sunday to Fitzpatrick's Bay, above Kauri Point. The motor boat Cyren.i was placed at the disposal of the club by Mr. R. Bellve, which also towed a number of boats to the bay, where over 200 gathered for the outing. Sports afloat and ashore were carried out under ; the direction of the commodore, Mr. Geo. Dennes, assisted by parents of the members and btlier friends, the outing being ihe best since the formation of the club live years ago. EASTER CRUISING RACES. The sweepstake race held annually by the Manukau Yacht Club ami open to allcomers will start on Good Friday morning. The Te Karo Cup is held by the winner for the next 12 mouths, providing bona title cruising gear is carried. Entries close this evening at the clubhouse. The Royal Akarana Yacht Club will hold a cruising race to Kawau, starting off the King's wharf at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday. To enable boats to compete in the race to Coromandel as well, the course will be from off the King's wharf, thence inside Waiheke to mark inside Beeson's Island, thence to Kawau, linishiing off Momona Point. TREVIC SHIELD. The Trevic Shield, presented by Mr. W. A. Johnston, of Bayswater, for .inter-club contests in the Z class, was competed for on Saturday after the usual, handicap race finished. The entries and their clubs were: Point Chevalier (Delphine), Richmond (Te Hoa), Ponsonby (Te Utu), Takapnna (Water Beetle). Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (Trevic), Wakatere (Te Uira), Victoria (Lyla),- Devonport (Ranoni), Royal Akarana (Kupe), Taniaki (Tanya), Howick (Tere). The mark on the outer end of the starting line drifted down harbour' just before this race starteu> but was later put back to its- former position.
