HEW ZEALAND TEAM. OPINION OF MANAGER. (By Telegraptu —Own Correspondent ) TAIHAPE, Thursday. Speaking at a valedictory gathering at Taihape in his honour last night, Mr. T. C. Lowry, manager of the New Zealand cricket team to tour England, said he ! nas at a loss to understand why thero I had been so much criticism of the team, j Some of the critics did not even play j cricket, and yet they had seen fit to i criticise the selection. In his opinion th_> j tonm could he regarded as a good hatting ' side, although one critic had facetiously j announced that the team would not get a bat. I Mr. Lowry said he attended the Plunk?t ! Shield match in Auckland, and was most ! impressed with the batting of Orson and Wallace.
