HOUSING SURVEY.
POSITION AT NORTHCOTE.
LETTER FROM MR. LEE
A letter read at a Xorthcote ■Borough Council meeting in replv to the council's request to the Parliamentary Undersecretary in Charge of Housing Mr. J. A. Lee, explained the objective of the housing survey required D .v the Government.
Mr. Lee said that it was gratifying to hear of the satisfactory state of Jiou*ing in Xorthcote, but the Minister of Finance had no power to grant exemption from the provisions of the Housing Survey- Act, 1930. He was. however, prepared to recommend that a survey be made only of dwellings below the standard set out in the second and third schedules of the regulations. Dealing with the council's suggestion that the Government should assist in the cost of any survey, Mr. Lee advised that the Act provided for the cost to be borne bv local authorities.
The matter is to be considered later.
