POLICE BAFFLED.
ONE-GIRL "CRIME WAVE." NEW YORK, February 17. A one-girl "crime wave" has baffled New York police. They are seeking "a woman in black" who has been responsible for three sensational holdups in nine days. Their description of the lone bandit is that she is tall, pretty and slim. She used identical methods in robbing three Broadway restaurants. Walking directly to the cashier's desk, she asked for cigarettes. While these were being got. she showed a pistol held in her hand in an open purse, and demanded money. Warning that she would shoot if there was an outcry, the gun-girl then walked out in full view of the diners. In all cases the diners did not even know there had been a robbery. A total of £37 was collected by the girl in the three hold-ups.
