AFTERNOON TEA.
AN OVERSEAS VISITOR. PAN-PACIFIC DIRECTOR. The Lyceum Club ■was artistically arranged with late summer blooms yesterday afternoon, when Mrs. W. H. Cocker, president of the Auckland Federation of University Women, and Miss Elsie Griffin, of the Pan-Pacific Women's Association, were joint hostesses for an enjoyable afternoon given in honour of Miss M. Steel, of Southampton, who is national project director for the Australian Pan-Pacific Women's Association. Greetings from the British Federation of University Women were conveyed by Miss Steol, who spoke of the valuable work that the international federation was doing in promoting understanding and fellowship among the university women of the world. Crosby Hall, in London, rich in historical association, was now a Mecca for university women of all nationalities. The important part that the women of Australia and New Zealand were called upon to play in developing the ideal of peaceful co-opera-tion among the peoples of the Pacific was also stressed by the speaker. Among those present were: Dr. Buckley Turkington, Mrs. Smaile, Mrs. X. A. Campbell, Misses F. J. Taylor, Beryl Knight, 0. Johnson, A. J. Greville, Olive Foster, Rilda Gerrie, A. Morrison, and L. Langsford.
