FAREWELL TEA. Members and friends of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met in the receptioij room of the Farmers' Trading Company on Monday afternoon to farewell Mrs. Hugh Kasper, J.P., who is leaving for an extended trip abroad, and to Sister Jessie, who is leaving for a holiday in Honolulu. Miss Ti. Read, district president, presided. Miss G. McKenzie opened with prayer. About 100 guests were present. Miss Moore, one of the foundation- members of the W.C.T.U., was warmly welcomed. Miss R. Read presented Mrs. Kasper with a beautiful box of flowers and wished her bon voyage. Many and varied were the expressions of esteem made by Mrs. Robert Martin, Mayoress of Northcote, Mr«. Stimpson. Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. Allebv, Mrs. Brocklehurst, Mrs. Winstone, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Kadv, Mrs. Mountjoy. Mrs. Babbington, Miss E. Matheson, Major Gordon. Mrs. Evans and representatives from Ashburton and Waimate. Mrs. Babbingtqp and Sister Jessie sang the Maori farewell, followed by a haka. In responding Mrs. Kasper said she had a very full programme before her and hoped to gather mueh information about temperance and educational work in other lands. In the meantime she asked'all to "carry on." Sister Jessie was also presented with a token of esteem, and in responding said the last six years of her ministry among the Maoris had been chiefly connected with temperance work, and it had been worth while. Solos were given by Mrs. Kasper, Miss J. Armit and Mies Nicholls. Mrs. Walker accompanied at , the piano. The singing of "Blest be the tie that binds," followed by the benediction, brought a very happy afternoon to a close.
