AUCKLAND BOARD'S WORK.

BUSY TIME FOR STAFF,

The fact that the board had m very great deal of work in hand in the direction of strengthening existing cables, and providing extra outdoor sub-stations complete with transformers and other equipment, high tension link feeds, and small extensions to high and low tension lines was mentioned by the general manager of the Auckland Electric Power Board, Mr. R. H. Bartley, in a report to the board yesterday afternoon. The board was also installing additional switchgear and large transformers in the Remuera, Newmarket, Point Chevalier and Kingeland sub-stations. Demands had also been very heavy during the present month in connection with services, 108 new services having been erected and 121 strengthened, added Mr. Bartley. A supply of current had been taken into the Franklin Road area, while the new 11,000 volt line in East Tamaki had now been completed and made alive. Fourteen highway units had been replaced with more modern street lighting fittings, 1488 fittings had been cleaned, and 419 lamps replaced. The demand for stoves was still being maintained, the installations to February 80 numbering 90. The report was adopted, The matter of arranging for the decoration of the board's building* for the Coronation celebrations was left to Mr. Bartley, a sum of £50 being allocated for this purpose. The report of the board-in-committee stated that Mr. H. T. GoMie had raised the question of the advisability of the boxrd taking some action to counter the statements made by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, J regarding the possible amalgamation or I nationalisation of supply authorities. In reply, it had been stated that a committee had been set up at the last power boards' conference to deal with the matter, and it wae understood that it would be discussed at a meeting of supply authorities to be held in Hamil- , ton on Match 3.
