After cantering once round Flood Tide wae joined by Nun Nicer at the mile poet, the pair finishing together in 1.44 3-5, after covering i lie firet half-mile in 525. Nun Xicer worked better than usual, but Flood Tide wae holding him eafely at the end. After running the first two furlong* in 24e, Valamito wae three length* clear of Ebb and Flow and Min Lu at the conclueion of five furlongs in 1.2. Dark Marble and Con Fuoco traversed a mile in 1.44 3-5, covering the last half-mile in 50 4-oe. Dark Marble began two length* in front, and etill held an advantage oi half a length at the Hnieh. Parquet, who is making excellent progress, sprinted five furlongs in 1.2 1-5. Mise Lovelock hit out pleasingly over two furlongs, but was not timed. Mia Acrea jumped away three lengths in front of Anion, but the latter had reduced the gap to a length after covering half a mile in 51 l-se. Spearcourt wae too good for Gai Wind at the conclusion of half a mile in 52 2-se, the first three furlongs occupying 38 3-ss. Gai Wind wae afterwards given barrier practice with War Picture, the latter going on to complete three furlonge in 39 2-sa. Romani, Trixie, Saconni and Lapidarian finished in that order after running three furlonge from a barrier «tart.
The Takanini trainer J. W. Cathro has decided to return to Matamata. and ia leaving with Doric Star, Dark Marble, Con Fuoco, Min Lu and a yearling by Night Raid—Paleetrina. The stable* are expected to be taken by an Ellerelie trainer.
