PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Papakura Town Board was held last evening, the chairman, Mr. H. E. McEntee, presiding. Sanitary Contract.—The contractor for the sanitary service (Mr. H. McLennan, wrote eaying he could not continue the contract at the preeent rate of 5%d, and wanted 6d. Eventually the board agreed to the increase. Mortgage Corporation Houses.—The Town Board had written to the Mortgage Corporation to inquire the reason of the corporation letting certain people abandon their properties. The replies received were laconic, mainly " owing to financial difficulties." In one case the corporation stated that it had taken the property, but the clerk pointed out that the corporation was paying the special rates on this property. The Town Board decided to obtain further particulate from the corporation. Bowling Green.—The local bowling club sent a cheque for £j on account of the '"iron fence'' account. The board decided to accept this amount on the understanding that it was "on account" and not a tinal payment. Highway Tenders.—The engineer reported that he was calling tenders, to be returnable on March 8. for the tar-sealing of the Papakura-Titi highway. In reference to the Papakura-Clevedon road, no answer had so far been received from the Main Highways Board. Town Board Paddock.—Mr. A. Abbies wrote accepting the offer to pay 9d a week for the Town Board paddock. Coronation Celebrations.—lt was resolved to call a meeting of the business people of the town for March 15 to consider the provision of a children's playground. Sports Floodlights.—The committee appointed to consider ;he flood-lighting of Prince Edward Park presented its report. The chairman, Mr. Weir, said they had not received any assistance from the Power Board engineer in the way of suggestione, and the committee had to call in a private contractor to assist them lhe board resolved to give the committee authority to do the flood-lighting
